50th Anniversary Dinner Dance

Around 80 people accepted the invitation to come along and join in this unique celebration of the Fosse Riders 50th year. In best bib and tucker they rolled up to be greeted with a complimentary drink, and a souvenir photo opportunity under the club flag of course.

There were ex members from the earliest days, i.e. 1959, through to present day members, all enjoying the opportunity to chat, or reminisce about old times before obeying the summons via a very loud gong to find their table for dinner.

All the food was scrumptious but I’m sure most will agree that the dessert of bread and butter pudding soaked in Baileys and smothered with fresh cream, all of which melted in the mouth, was a very fitting climax. After the main course, there was a short interval to allow for a welcome speech from Chairman Bryan Kipling, followed by a few words from Mike Fairhead during which a “thank you” bouquet of flowers was presented to Pauline Cotterill in recognition of all her hard work in the past, the present, and hopefully, the future.

This was followed by a short film of Bill Bailey, No.1 member on the club’s register. Unfortunately Bill couldn’t make the dinner due to ill health but it was great to see him up on the big screen and hear his own reminiscences of the start of the Fosse Riders back in 1959.

Having enjoyed some gentle background music throughout dinner, both the volume and tempo were duly turned up and the dance floor was soon full.

Midnight arrived all too soon and like modern day Cinderellas, we had to reluctantly draw things to a close. A really enjoyable evening which was supported, not only by local members, but also members from London, the Wirral, Colchester, and Maidenhead, as well as “old timers” from Norwich, Northampton, and last but no least, from Brittany.

Thank you to everyone who turned out to help us celebrate this very special anniversary.
