Pub Grug Run - 31st January 2010
Mike Fairhead

Well would you believe it. Minus 3 deg in the night, heavy white over
frost Sunday morning, then throw in a sprinkling of snow. Are these
ideal conditions for a club run???
Well, believe it or not 8 bikes did turn up at the club house ready
to go out on the first club run of the year. Club members who committed
themselves to turning up on a cold winters morning included RAF Kev,
Maria, Devon, Adam, Rod, Sharon, myself and of course Ponytail Pete
who organised the whole thing.
The club room was opened up at 10am and we all left at 10.30. Chairman
Bryan also turned up and took a few photos. We headed out along the
A50 and then took the A46 before peeling off to pick up the A607. This
took us to Melton Mowbray, and our first stop at a nice old fashioned
tea house in an old wooden hut in a lovely little park. On Sundays this
is a bikers magnet and even in on a cold January morning there were
still several bikers in the cafe. After a nice hot mug of tea it was
off along the back country lanes through Old Dalby, Tilton and onto
the A47 where we headed back towards Leicester.
The temperature had increased by this time to 2 degrees so not stoo
bad.
Once into Leicester we turned right along Station Lane and left at the
bottom towards the pub, The Mannor, where we were greeted by another
dozen club members who had braved the weather. Nigel Woodthorpe also
popped in on his Sprint ST on his way back from a Rally in Manchester.
This was a carvery meal and for £4.95 (senior) it was excellent value.
There were 4 different meats, roast parsnips, yorkie puds, roast potatoes,
stuffing, and several pots of fresh veg all topped off with onion gravy.
The lady serving the meals was up at 7.30am cooking it all, so good
home cooking too.
Pete rounded the whole day off by inviting members back to his place
for coffee, so a short trip up the road and I had my second hot mug
of tea.
This was a nice way to finish off what turned out to be a really excellent
day out. No great distances covered but given the weather conditions
it was just enough for us to enjoy the ride.
