When Dave isn’t propping up the club T Bar, he can
be found leaving other riders wanting in their attempt to
match his steady riding style on one of his vintage machines.
He has been riding since the age of 16, there is apparently
no truth in the rumour that his original licence was carved
on a tablet of stone.
Transcontinental Exploits
Dave has ventured twice on to the continent on 2 wheels,
the first trip to Italy on a BMW 100T special build, ended
in disaster when a friend who was on a 750 Yamaha got knocked
off while negotiating roadwork's, no serious injuries were
sustained and with some judicious kicking (to the bike)
they were able to return home cutting short their trip.
Destination Belgium
The second trip organised by the BMW owners club was excellent
fun, they met up with a sidecar club. They did a few runs
out with them consuming an odd beer here and there on the
way and huge quantities of Belgian cake. The most moving
part of the trip for Dave was a visit to the WW1 war graves.
Most fun on 2 wheels
This was when Dave was a member of the Bantam racing club,
his machine at that time was a Yamaha RD250, which he rode
to the meetings then taped up all the lights stuck a number
on and away you go. Dave’s achievements fell into
“it was fun taking part category”
Most fun on 2 wheels Part II
This was when Dave who was riding his Suzuki TL1000 swept
by another club rider on the A5 at a shade under 170mph.
This was of course in the days before speed restrictions
…. Well ok it wasn’t.
